WHY I LOVE IN-HOME CLIENT SESSIONS

We are very much in an age of "non-tradition" be it fashion, weddings, communication, work life balance and most definitely photography. Primarily driven by social media, gone are the days of perfectly posed stoic everybody say cheese on the count of 3 photo shoots. That ain't my style anyway. I love authentic, genuine, comfortable, this is how we are/I am style sessions be it branding, engagement, etc. Which is why I love in-home sessions which I'm finding clients particularly drawn to as of late. And while in-home sessions are not for "everybody", if you've ever considered, these are a few of my fave selections (shot by moi), and why I love in-home sessions.

I love the candor and transparency of in-home sessions. I find that clients are more likely to let their guards down and be vulnerable in the best possible way which evokes a certain mood. New spaces can sometimes be a bit intimidating to some especially if you already tend to be more shy so shooting in a space you know top to bottom can lessen that.

Because at home clients have their closets at their disposal and I find some don't stress as much over what to wear however for the sake of time, we do define all of that prior to. But there have been a couple of sessions where we wing it and pull pieces as we're shooting to create a great look!

Because clients tend to be more comfortable in their own space, you can sometimes elicit be it a pose or an expression or a look even that they might not otherwise feel comfortable owning in a public and/or studio space.

Home is where the heart is which naturally comes thru when shooting in a space that you've literally curated in love. Be still my heart.

The decor of a clients home can provide an amazing backdrop but it's always advised to have that conversation up front. I talk to my clients if I haven't otherwise seen their home regarding the layout, color preferences, spaces that provide the most ideal light and sometimes that may require going outside. I've even suggested if they mention having a particular piece or a decor theme, to display it or rearrange so that it's more visible. We gonna work with whatcha got!

Particularly if a shoot where the lil' ones are participating, an in-home session is ideal because you benefit by my coming to you firstly. But also as I and most Parents can attest to, getting your kids dressed and wrangling them to get ready is a task by itself *wipes brow*. And sometimes ensuring they stay presentable (no spills, finger prints), while en route to the location until the photo shoot begins can be overwhelming. In-home sessions eliminate some of that and kids tend to be more relaxed (less tantrums and fits), and I as the Photographer can coax them into being more participatory in their own space.

Oh and for sessions featuring our furry friends, in-home sessions are definitely ideal because they stay ...:)
